Description
This visa allows dependent children of work or student visa holders to stay and study at primary or secondary school in New Zealand. If the child wish to study at tertiary level, they will need to apply for another type of student visa instead. The stay period and visa validity granted will match the duration of the parents' student visitor visa. The child is considered dependent if they: 1. Are 17 years old or younger, or 2. Are 18–19 years old with no children of their own 3. Be in good health and character, and 4. Rely on the parents for financial support. If your children do not wish to study for a primary or secondary school, or if they wish to only study for up to 3 months, you may visit this page.

- 2. Hold a valid work or student visa.
- 3. Have the legal right to remove your child from their home country
- 4. Have enough money to pay for your child’s living expenses during their stay, or have an acceptable sponsor or guarantor
- 5. Agree to pay your child’s health care costs, if they are not eligible for public health care
- 6. Have enough money for your child to leave New Zealand
- The child is considered dependent if they:
- 1. Are 17 years old or younger, or
- 2. Are 18–19 years old with no children of their own
- 3. Be in good health and character, and
- 4. Rely on the parents for financial support.

The passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the departure date. Name must be consistent across the passport, birth certificate, ID card, and family card, if there is any discrepancy, a PM1 (Name Discrepancy Letter) issued by the local district office is required.

Evidence of Funds for New Zealand Dependent Child of Student Visa *
Evidence of funds to support yourself in New Zealand, can be submitted in the form of: 1. For full year study: Bank Statement of 3 Months with minimum balance NZD $17,000 2. If not full year: Bank Statement of 3 Months with minimum balance NZD $1,417 for every month your child will be in New Zealand
